Scholarship Winners Announced!
We are pleased to announce the 2022 Harold V. Lucas, Jr. Foundation Scholarship Award Recipients! Two scholarships were awarded in each of the following categories: Scholastic, Athletic, and Citizenship. Each of the following Volusia County Schools 2022 graduating seniors received a $1000.00 (one thousand dollar) scholarship: Cathrine Beshay (Scholastic), Xavier Harris (Citizenship), Marlen Mendoza (Athletic), Melina Motwani (Scholastic), Chandler Powers (Athletic), and Jimiya Revolus (Citizenship). These students represent the best of the best with their innovation, brilliance, and compassion. They are school leaders, business owners, community volunteers, and social entrepreneurs.
The scholarships were presented to the students during an awards ceremony on May 14, 2022 held at The Lucas Center in Daytona Beach, FL and the guest speaker was Rev. Dr. Felix Burrows, Jr. Dr. Burrows is a native of Daytona Beach who currently lives in Ohio. He is a former chemist, business owner, and New Church Development Pastor of the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA). The scholarship recipients and their family, friends, and supporters attended the event, along with the Volusia County Schools Interim Superintendent Ms. Rachel Hazel and Volusia County School Board Vice-Chair Jamie Haynes.
